Mega Parc Cloud Coaster

Mega Parc Cloud Coaster

Case Study:

The steampunk themed amusement park, Mega Parc, is the largest indoor amusement park in Quebec and second largest in the nation.  Oxford Property group relied upon Extreme Engineering to design a family friendly glider next to their existing Mack roller coaster.  Our engineering team worked on the idea of making the Cloud Coaster soar through a spokeless Ferris Wheel.  The coaster track had to be free floating, include no coaster columns, mounted within the building’s existing structure and soar around other surrounding attractions.  This engineering marvel allowed the track to successfully look like it was floating above the sky and through a Ferris wheel, making our Cloud Coaster the very first in North America, second in the entire world, to accomplish this thrilling configuration.

The exciting attraction launches guests, of all ages, above 40 feet from the floor. Extreme Engineering’s coaster was designed as a glider, purposely tuned to be slower than normal, giving guests the sensation of a smooth flight above the amusement park.  The ride vehicle uses a class 3 roller coaster cart, designed to handle riders of all ages, with an electric locking lap bar and safety strap.  Also included on the ride vehicle is an adjustable dampening system, allowing the operator to control the swaying motion on the fly.  The coaster’s trolley has a patented, passive magnetic braking system, requiring no power or friction.

Since the start of the Mega Parc project, Extreme Engineering earned a top spot in Coaster101’s most anticipated roller coasters to open in 2018 along with top 10 new attractions by USA Today.  In 2018 the Cloud Coaster also was awarded Best Major Attraction by IAAPA and in 2019 was nominated for a Golden Ticket Award by Amusement Today.  The Cloud Coaster utilizes a Class 3 ride vehicle, is ADA friendly and can take rides as short at 40″ tall.
