Throughout Pete’s career, he has had the unique opportunity to gain experience in sales, advertising, public relations, graphic design and marketing with some of the best companies in their industries. Early in Pete’s career he received exceptional training in marketing and public relations with corporate advertising giants, Domino’s Pizza and McDonald’s. Pete attributes much of his success to what he learned about treating customers, listening for comprehension, and the role that accurate data plays in making strategic marketing decisions to those early years. While working with McDonald’s, he received the Spirit Award (voted on by his peers) while obtaining his degree from McDonald’s Hamburger University, a Certificate of Innovation for developing a unique internal employee recruitment/retention program, and Honorable Mention from the McDonald’s corporate office for the regional launch of a new product (Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits). The advertising brand building campaign (McDonald’s Gives You More) that he worked on was implemented by over 50 McDonald’s co-ops worldwide.
Pete has served in the amusement and attractions industry for more than 15 years, having gained invaluable perspective working for the association that represents the industry (IAAPA), two manufacturers (Premier Rides and S&S Worldwide), and a park (HersheyPark). He found his home in the amusement and attractions industry when he was hired by IAAPA and will always have a special spot in his heart for the hard work that they do for the industry. Pete has served on many committee and task forces since leaving IAAPA, but has a desire to do more for the industry that has given so much to him and his family.
Pete is a visible and active participant at nearly every industry meeting, function, trade show and seminar that is held in the amusement and attractions industry. He loves to mentor young, energetic professionals in the industry and is always willing to share some insight or provide an introduction to help people get their start in the industry. He loves seeing his friends be successful.
Pete and his wife, Dr. Heather Barto, live in Central Pennsylvania. His wife is the Director of the Graduate Level School Counseling program at Messiah University (where Pete received his MBA). She received her undergraduate degree at James Madison University (where Pete and Heather met), her graduate degree at Johns Hopkins University, and her doctorate degree at Virginia Tech. Their daughter Madison is studying to be a Mechanical Engineer at Lafayette College. On weekends, if Pete is not with Heather at a regatta watching Madison row crew for the Lafayette Leopards, you can usually find him on the golf course.
